Battling Depression While in Pursuit of Your Dreams

Battling Depression

If you’re close to the edge, you’ll get blown over the cliff when the wind blows….and the storm erupts. SO STAY AWAY FROM THE EDGE! Battling depression, stop pushing yourself to your limits and stop allowing others to push you to your limits.

The only one that should be molding the clay (you are the clay) is our Heavenly Father (so sorry to yell but girl SERIOUSLY)! During my daily reading, I read: “There are so many instances in the Bible of God giving his children favor with man-with no effort on their part (2005, Smith-Pegues).

It was confirmation for me because I had the urge to email a potential client an extra follow-up to persuade her to make the decision to work with me FASTER. As I pondered on doing that, I heard the Holy Spirit tell me to simply “Be STILL and know that I am GOD”-Psalms 46:10.

Now, I am not saying that double follow-ups are off the table because in some instances they are needed! What I am saying is…BE LED by the Holy Spirit and not your own desires because sometimes you really don’t have it in you to be ambitious or face unnecessary rejection.

“Sometimes you are putting all of your effort and energy into getting out of bed and putting on a happy face knowing that inside you are DROWNING.”

KNOW THAT: This is a productive effort and energy well spent. Don’t allow any voice inside of your head or outside of you to tell you that you need to do anything more than “get through the day” when you are mentally, spiritually, or physically struggling. Know that God is here to do the rest. When you are weak he is strong (2 Corinthians 12:10).

The truth is that belief and obedience go hand in hand because what you do outwardly reflects what you need internally. You must live your life and conduct your business as if you have the spirit of Christ living within you.

So What Do You Do When You Only Have the Strength to Get Out of Bed and Survive?

Battling Depression

1. You get out of the bed

2. You ONLY do what is necessary to maintain order in your home

3. Maintain your responsibilities

4. Shut the world out — stay off of social media, TV, and any other outside sources

5. Read or listen to your Bible

6. Pray aloud and journal your thoughts, feelings, and prayers

7. Grab a book (pray before you do it), crossword puzzle, or something non-electronic and let the time pass (this is called productively resting)

“#7 can be a flex activity because some of you have the luxury of listening to worship music and taking naps.”

If that’s you. Do it!

If you have children or you work a lot, then non-electronic past times are really going to give your mind and soul a chance to process, decompress and heal!

Depression is real and no matter what caused it, but battling depression is necessary. I want to reassure you that NOTHING is wrong with you and that you are NOT alone.
