We all know bossprenuers who are all women entrepreneurs all at the same time! If it’s not ourselves, it’s our aunt, our neighbor, or our childhood friend.
They’re the bad-mama-jamas that are doing it all, from generating revenue in their businesses to running a team to raising and serving in their home.
From the outside looking in it appears to be much easier than it is. But in reality, there is a lot of juggling that these women entrepreneurs do behind the scenes to make it all happen. I can attest to it.
Balancing Personal and Professional Life As a Women Entrepreneurs
Throughout my years as a writer, consultant, and fempreneur, I’ve learned countless lessons on how to best balance my personal and professional life, and I’d like to share them with you.
Disregard Societal Expectations
As women entrepreneurs, society projects perfectionism in all aspects of our lives, and a lot of us strive to meet this ridiculous standard despite the pain it may cause.
Society will tell us that we’re spending too much time on our businesses and not enough time with our children.
We unknowingly allow the media to set success metrics for us without taking the time to consider what we personally deem success to look like.
It can be incredibly overwhelming to get all of these messages hitting you at the same time, and a lot of women entrepreneurs suffer a crazy amount of pressure trying to meet all of these expectations.
Well, here’s a news flash: you don’t have to.
You’re only human, and it’s okay to have weaknesses or let some things fall through the cracks sometimes. In fact, it’s inevitable; I don’t believe in balance as much as I believe in perfect timing and everchanging seasons of life.
So, instead of focusing on what society expects from you, focus on what you’ve accomplished and what you’re good at- yes, this includes being a good mom and wife!
Trust me, relieving yourself of that pressure will lead to more success.
Work on Your Mindset
Do you want to know the secret to success?
It’s very simple: you set your own success metrics… and then you work your butt off to reach them.
Never look for society, the media, or your haters to tell you what you could or should accomplish; you get to decide this on your own.
So, what does success look like and feel like to you?
Is it being a great businesswoman and mother? Is it having the ability to work around your priorities? Is it building a business that will allow you to retire early?
Whatever your version of success is, I recommend doing these two simple things:
- Write it down somewhere you will always see
- Center all of your goals around it
As you go through the process of working towards success, you’ll uncover so many wonderful and powerful things about yourself, and your doubts and fears will fade to the back.
You’ll begin to think, “If I have all of these positives, why am I so afraid? What is really causing my insecurities?”
Working through mindset issues can be painful, but in the end, it’s a way for you to care for yourself and your mental well-being while helping your business succeed.
Find a Support Network
Despite the fact that female entrepreneurship is on the rise, only about 40% of businesses are owned by women.
It can be lonely being a woman in business when you don’t have support, particularly if there are societal pressures or mindset issues you have to work through in order to thrive.
Building or finding a network of like-minded businesswomen is incredibly important when trying to succeed as a women entrepreneur. These are the people who will have your back, call you out, and push you to succeed.
One of the reasons I’m where I am today is the support of the female business friends I made along the way and their words of wisdom and guidance. It’s also one of the reasons I didn’t lose my mind when building up my business.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the things women entrepreneurs have to balance when pursuing entrepreneurship, but I hope these few lessons are able to help you juggle all aspects of life as a female business owner.
